Why your marketing is not like a rotisserie chicken

Several years ago the TV airwaves were flooded by infomercials hosted by Ronco pitchman Ron Popeil. For the next 60 or 90 minutes he would repeatedly show you the benefits of his product, how easy it was to use, and how inexpensive it was. One of his most successful items was the Showtime Rotisserie Oven, the item was so popular that an updated version is still sold on Amazon, you can even find the original model on ebay.
The oven was so popular because of the catchphrase “Set it and forget it”, which spoke directly to how simple the product was to use. You would basically put your chicken inside, even cook some vegetables in the steamer on top, set the timer and come back in an hour and your rotisserie chicken meal was done. This was genius marketing and the catchphrase Ron coined is still used to describe how easy something is to operate. One thing that “Set it and forget it” does not apply to is Digital Marketing.
